  • French and Indian War
  • French and Indian War
  • French and Indian War
  • The French(blue) and the British(Red) fought over territory in the Ohio River Valley with their own tribe of Native Americans to back them up. The French were supported by the Algonquins and the British were Supported by the Iroquois.
  • Sugar Act of 1764
  • Look at my great priced molasses...
  • Although the French had more experience in fighting the British had strength in numbers. The British won and eventually completely moved the French off the new world. But because of the war, the debt had doubled in Britain which caused some problems in the colonies.
  • Stamp Act of 1965
  • or would you like some of my colored paper?
  • When the French and Indian War ended the colonists in the Colonies were taxed because the debt in Britain had doubled. Also, in order the keep the peace with the Indians, the Proclamation of 1763 was announced. This stated that no colonist could move past the Appalachian mountains even though they were promised land if they fought for the king. As you might imagine, many people ignored this proclamation.
  • Stamp Act Congress
  • The Sugar Act put taxes on sugar, wine, indigo, and molasses. This tax was put in place to help Britain pay off its debt. Many of the New England colonies were outraged because the molasses was used to make rum and was sold to other countries.
  • The Sugar Act hadn't generated enough money to get Britain out of debt. So Britain made a new tax that was almost unavoidable. The tax was on paper, books, and stamps. This tax led to the outcry of the colonists, "No taxation without representation!" The colonists thought that if they could not have a voice in Britains Parliment they shouldn't be taxed.
  • The Stamp Act Congress was formed to repeal the Stamp Act tax. This was important because it showed that the colonies could all unite under one common cause.
