The first incident which starts the whole novel is when Coyoyito gets stung by a scorpion. Here we also see Kino's uncontrollable rage as he annihilates the scorpion until it became a"fragment and a moist place in the dirt"
Kino tries to sell the Pearl
News spreads quickly in the neighborhood. Coyoyito decides to go to the doctor's house to get it treated, but the doctor being a very greedy person refuses because KIno is poor.
Kino announces that he will go to the capital
After their disastrous encounter with the doctor, Kino decided to head back to work. He is a pearl fisher working in the beautiful and calm beach of La Paz. After a few oysters he finds a big one, and he opens the shell exposing a beautiful and magnificent pearl dubbed "The Pearl Of The World"
Kino gets attacked
Kino tries to sell pearl to the pearl to the pearl buyers, but unbeknownst to him to pearl buyers have already arranged the whole scheme together. As Kino offers the pearl the first one outright refused the Pearl calling it a "monstrosity" the second one also refused and the third one offered 1500pesos.
Kino became furious at the offer. Saying that the Pearl alone was at least fifty thousand pesos. Seeing that he was cheated, Kino declared that he would go to the capital to sell the pearl. In this instance we see Steinbeck speaking in the book by Juan Thomas. Juan Thomas says that it's not Kino's job to change everything.
As Kino and Juana returned to their house. As Kino and Juana contemplated on whether they should actually go the capital. After they decided to go to the capital Kino rested on a carpet he got stabbed by a person with the knife. The assaulter escaped. Yet Kino was still stubborn and wanted to go to the capital.
