  • U.S. agreed debts long owed to british merchants. 
  • British agreed to...  pay for seized ships and withdraw it's troops from the NW terriotory 
  • Washington’s Farewell Speech
  • Listen to thsi advice and this will be a good running country
  • Development of Political Parties
  • Alexander Hamilton- (Federalist) Federal powers suppport britain national bank protective tarrifs
  • Thomas Jefferson (democratic-republican) State powers supports france  against national bank against protective tarrifs
  • John Jay was sent to London by George Washington to try and fix the problems with Britain. He returned with a tready with things that the U.S. and Britain agreed to do, the American republicans were very angered by this tready, however the federalists liked this treaty. 
  • XYZ Affair
  • we need $250,000 from you in order to see Tallyrand and a $12,000,000 loan
  •      George Washington wanted to be done with president. He left the American people with 3 pieces of advice, the president should only serve 2 terms, everyone should avoid political factions and everyone should avoid eurpean problems.
  • Alien & Sedition Acts
  • There were two different political parties, democratic republicans and the federalists. Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton were key leaders to these groups.  
  • Midnight Appointments
  • John Adams sent three men, Charles Pinckeny, John Marshall and Elbridge Gerry, to France in attempt to set things right with France. When they arrived they came across three agents from Tallyrand, they were labeled X, Y & Z
  • The Alien and Sedition acts had four parts, Naturalization act, Alien act, Alien Enemies act and the sedition act. These acts all targeted people from outside the U.S., specifcally France.
  • These acts shall solve our problems with France
  • During the election in 1800 the federalists had lost all of their power, lost control of both parts of congress and they lost control of the presidency.  In passing the judiciary act John Adams tried to make the courts packed with federalists and John Adams makes midnight appiontments with the federalists to do this. 
  • we need to get federalists in the court before my presidency is up!
