On the ship Mary Augusta Clerc and Gallaudet on June 18,1816 left for America. During their time on the boat Clerc Taught Gallaudet "The Method of The Signs for Abstract Idea". In return Gallaudet tutored Clerc in the English language. Their voyage to America lasted 52 days.
When they got to America they met a girl named Alice Cogswell. Clerc and Gallaudet really liked her and wanted to find a way for not just her but every deaf person to communitcate with others.
ON April 15,1817, rented rooms made up their school. Alice being the first to enroll. Gallaudet was the principal and Clerc was the head teacher.
Clerc later found love and married Elizabeth.
After teaching for 50 years and finding someone he loves he died at the age of 83 years on July 18,1869
Clerc became a great influence to those he taught sign language to.
