By creating this school we will help all the deaf kids and people in the world
Gallaudet came across Alice Cogswell he was intrigued by the ways of ASL, so he educated her by teaching her with sticks in the mud.
*signs* Alice great work now try this
Eventually, Gallaudet traveled to Greater Britain to investigate better education methods for the deaf people. While touring he met Abbe Sicard and Laurent Clerc a deaf teacher at the French school for the deaf. He brought Clerc back to america for a term of 3 years to help people in america better understand ASL.
What can i say that will encourage people to enroll their children in our school
Once they returned to America Gallaudet and Clerc establish the first deaf school in America called the Connecticut Asylum for the Education and Instruction of Deaf and Dumb Persons.
HOOORRAAY FOR ASL!!!!!!!!!!
When they opened up their institution in 1817, Alice was their first student.
Gallaudet's writing's and public appearances made the school famous by 1830, which encouraged people from all over to lean sign language.
They both continued to meet new people and influence others to join their school.....Without Thomas Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc, ASL wouldn't be one of the top languages in the US TODAY!
