  • EXTREME LONG SHOT AND COSTUME
  • AERIAL AND VERTICAL DIVISION

  • CLOSE UP AND MUSIC
  • The director uses an extreme long shot of almost all the town sitting in the football stadium's stand. This is important because it shows how many people have been affected by the crash and losses. We also learn that they've gathered in an important place where they feel united. McG combines this with costume. Everyone wears black meaning they're mourning.
  • McG uses an aerial shot of the quarterback's funeral service. This is significant because it shows that those present are vulnerable - weakened by their grief. Furthermore, the director uses a vertical division to show that the death has affected both the surviving players (who may be guilty, too) as well as the town (who are simply sad). No-one is at their best.
  • The director uses a close up of Annie Cantrell, the fiancee of Chris Griffen, at his funeral to show her facial expression. She is sad, almost crying. The use of shallow focus draws our attention to her and her feelings. McG combines this with non-diegetic music. It is slow paced to evoke a sad atmosphere.
