  • Step 3:
  • How to exit
  • Your first instinct should be to get out of the house. You should not even pause to call 911. This can be done outside.
  • When exiting stay low to the ground. This is because smoke and other poisonous gases will collect on the ceiling first.
  • Another thing to keep in mind is opening doors. If there is smoke coming out of a closed door DO NOT open it. You should also not open a door if the door or doorknob is hot. This means that there is fire on the other side.
  • Do NOT try to save your pets or personal items. Once firefighters show up they will take care of it.
  • Step 4:
  • Practice
  • It may seem dumb, but practice escaping your house as if a fire had happened. Practice will help you understand what to do and expect
  • Stop, drop, and roll
  • Step 5:
  • If your clothes catch fire, do not panic! Instead, stop, drop to the ground, and roll. While rolling make sure to cover your face with your hands. By doing this, you will cut off air to the flames
  • In conclusion...
  • Remember kids, fire is no laughing matter. In case of an emergency have an exit plan and practice escaping.
