  • Chapter 3 and 4
  • "we're gonna have rabbits an' a berry patch"
  • "You're nuts"
  • Chapter 5

  • " You stop it now, you'll mess it all up
  • George and Lennie are sitting by the fire eating beans while they talk about their dream .There dream is to own a ranch with rabbits, so that Lennie can tend and pet them. But Lennie always ends up killing all the mice he has pet so this proves that their dream won't come true. The theme of this book could be that dreams don't always come true because things can always go wrong.
  • Chapter 6
  • " We gonna get a little place"
  • Lennie and Crooks are talking about the dream of owning a ranch. Crooks wants to be part of the dream so he says that he would help around the ranch. But at the end of the chapter when Lennie tells George that Crooks would help George gets mad. As a result Crooks says that he was joking because he knew that their dream will never come true. The theme of this chapter would be dreams won't always come true because something could get in the way.For example Crooks's skin color.
  • Lennie is left alone in the bunker until Curley's wife comes in.They start discussing velvet and things that are soft, so Curley's wife lets Lennie touch her hair. Lennie starts petting her hair to hard so she gets mad. This scene shows that Lennie  pets her hair like he pets the mice, and usually he ends up killing them. But in this chapter he ends up killing Curley's wife on accident, which demonstrates that he can be dangerous. The theme in this chapter is dreams won't always come true because sometimes people that you are close with can make bad decisions that end up affecting you.
  • " Tell how it's gonna be"
  • George finds Lennie is the woods waiting for him because he knows that he has just done something bad. George ends up killing Lennie because he knows that he can't accomplish his dreams with Lennie in the way. This chapter shows that George and Lennie were never going to own a ranch with rabbits because Lennie would end up doing something bad. Earlier on in the book a character ended up killing the old dog, when this happened it was almost preparing us for the future because it resembles Lennie dying. In this section of the book the theme would be that dreams can't always come true because something or someone will get in the way. In this book Lennie happens to be the  person who gets int way.
