Storyboard Text

  • The Crusades were a series of religious wars that lasted for approximately 200 years. The Crusaders were fought between the world's three most known religions, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.
  • In 1095, Pope Urban II launched the first Crusade in the Council of Clermont. Alexius Comnenus requested help from the Pope since the Turks had just recently captured the Holy land of Jerusalem.
  • All in all, there were about 12 Crusades that took course throughout the 200 years that the Crusades lasted. Even though there were many strong military efforts at conquering the Holy Land, there were overall many failures that allowed the Holy Land to be possessed by the Muslims.
  • After all of the many Crusades, there came many results and effects that sprouted. These included economic, social, and political effects. The economic effects that were made because of the Crusades were the increased trade and travelling goods. The stretched, unused roads of the fallen Roman empire were now buzzing and booming with trade from the Middle East. Also, the trade brought new and innovative tools to arrive in Europe which then sparked an interest in exploration.
  • The Crusades caused economic effects, as well as political effects. The Crusades caused the increased trade, which helped end feudalism. The trade also made a major growth in of towns which meant that there was going to be more self-sufficiency. While these effects occurred, the Church was also affected. Due to the Crusades, the Church lost its power and monarchs began to rise up and take power.
  • The Crusades were a big part in history. As you can see, the Crusades mad many political and economical effects, but also created social effects. One of these was the permanent division between the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox Church. Finally, the 200 years of war did indeed affect many lives. This is because the Crusades created and alarming death rate. This "death toll" was the many innocent lives that were taken because of the fierce fighting that the Crusades carried. Overall, the Crusades have caused stress in many lives and have created long lasting effects that are both good and bad.
