  • I'm sorry, Charley, I already got a job.
  • Willy Loman is the Tragic hero because his tragic flaw (hubris) leads to his downfall.
  • Peripetia
  • YOU'RE FIRED
  • Willy's tragic flaw is hubris. His pride.
  • Anagnorisis
  • Everything will be all better this way.
  • Willy, it's time for bed, dear.
  • Willy shows hubris when he goes and doesn't accept help from anyone when he needs it. He also talked up and showed excessive pride for Biff.
  • Catharsis
  • Things turn upside down for Willy when he gets fired from his job, and even before that when he starts to have flashbacks.
  • Willy discovers a moment of self-discovery when he finally has a mental breakdown and accepts all of the reality that he's been avoiding as he readies to kill himself.
  • The audience is emotionally moved when Willy finally decides to kill himself. He thinks this is the only way, and when he dies the audience takes pity on him.
