"No Witchcraft for Sale" Doris Lessing Kaitlyn Forrest 4th period May 2nd 2018
Gideon a kind, harder working, caring, African American worked for the Farquars. They ended up having a son named Teddy. Gideon loved their son, called him "Little Yellow Head" and he even took care of Teddy all the time teaching wrong from right.
The story took place in Southern Rhodesia in 1924. The main characters are The Farquars, Teddy, Gideon and, the Scientist. Two events of the story were Teddy getting venom in his eyes from a snake spitting, then Scientist coming to see what cured the venom from his eyes so he did not go blind.
The main conflict of the story was when Gideon cured Teddy's eyes from going blind and a scientist going around asking people if they knew the cure. Then the scientist coming to the Farquars and talking to them about getting Gideon to spill on the medicine. Gideon did not want to tell the scientist what plant (medicine) he used on the child's eyes until after taking them to walk for a couple hours.
He decided to stop walking after a few hours to pick up a plant that they had passed many times several hours ago. Gideon was very upset with the Farquars. After a while he was not mad at them anymore, yet was still thankful that Teddy was okay in the end.
The theme of the story is to watch what you show people because others will try to take your act of kindness and sell it for money. My reaction to the story is heart felt because a black man loved taking care of his bosses kid. It was kind of him to take care of his eyes after the snack spit into them.
