  • At the beginning of the story, Montresor is a bitter man who wants revenge against an associate of his named Fortunato.

  • At the carnival, Montresor come across Fortunato and decides that it's time to start his plan of revenge on Fortunato.
  • Falling Action
  • Montresor offers Fortunato more to drink to keep him intoxicated so he doesn't know what's going on.
  • Resolution
  • Montresor chains Fortunato to a wall and builds a brick barricade around him so he can't get out.
  • While Montresor is building up the brick wall Fortunato begins to scream, so Montresor starts stabbing his sword in the aperture.
  • Montresor has gone free of punishment for fifty years, leaving him able to tell the tale.
