  • crusades The Crusades were a series of religious wars between the Christians and the Muslims. The Crusades led to the decline of feudalism because it opened new trade options for England.
  • Magna Carta The Magna Carta was a legal document that was signed in 1215 and limited the monarch's king's power. Angry nobles forced King John to put his seal on this document. This led to the decline of feudalism because it shifted more power from the nobles to the common people which led to the basis of modern democratic institutions.
  • The Hundred Years War The Hundred Years War was a war that occurred between the French and the English.  English monarchs ad claimed French lands long ago, however, the French now declined these claims. Joan  of arc was a 17-year-old peasant girl who claimed to hear the voices of saints urging her to help the French which also increased their resistance. The hundred years war helped the decline of feudalism because it helped shift power from the lords to the commoners. During the war monarchs on both sides had collected taxes and raised large professional armies. As a result,t kings no longer relied on nobles to supply knights for the army.
  • The decline of feudalism was also caused by the black death The outbreak of the bubonic plague or the Black Death decreased Europe's population by one third. Trade and commerce slowed. As Europe began to recover, the economy needed to be rebuilt. But it wouldn't be rebuilt in the same way, as feudal lords no longer held most of the power.
