The kids start to spread rumors about a beast that lurks through the forest.
"I'm not going to be part of Ralph's lot--" (p.127)
Jack, Ralph, and his friends went hunting for the "beast" not knowing that the beast is symbolic of the savagery that lives inside each of them.
Ralph told everyone they found the beast, ultimately placing a pig's head on a stick to reflect an internal target they'd always look to fight.
Jack called an assembly and wanted to be the new chief. He decided to leave Ralphs group and make his own.
Ralph and Piggy went to Jack's fort to go get Piggy's glasses back since Jack stole them from him. Piggy is nearly blind without them.
When Ralph and Piggy got to Jack's fort, Piggy asked if he could get his glasses back. He also confronted Jack and told him they are "acting like a crowd of kids". Jack's friend, Roger, rolled a boulder at Piggy and killed him with the conch in his hands.
