  • King Charles 1 signs a petition to limit his power. He later ignores it, and increases tensions between Parliament and himself.
  • If they beheaded my dad, I better not act like him....
  • Heyyy, wanna be a king?
  • A Civil War breaks out in 1642, after tensions become too much. The Cavaliers supporting the King, and the Roundheads, Parliament's supporters.
  • To France!
  • *Sigh* You get to be King now.

  • English Bill of Rights
  • Cromwell dies and the monarchy is restored after going through many different changes during Cromwell's rein. The new King is Charles 2, Charles 1's son. He learns from his father's mistakes and does not follow the Divine Right of Kings
  • Charles 2 dies and James 2, Charles' brother, becomes King. The Parliament becomes worried again, and a group of nobles convinced William of Orange to invade England and take over. He does so, and becomes the new King. James 2 realized what was happening, and fled to France. The revolution was won with almost no bloodshed.
  • William and his wife, Mary, became King and Queen in 1689 and ruled very well. They laid the foundation for the constitutional monarchy. The monarchy and Parliament ruled together from then on, and destroyed the Divine Right of Kings theory. Mary and William also made the English Bill of Rights.
