Neely Crenshaw is returning to Messina Highschool after 15 years. He promised himself that he would never return, but as all things come to an end, his former football coach, and an all-time Messina legend, Eddie Rake, is just waiting to die. Neely, along with other teammates, gather at the old Field of Glory, waiting patiently for Rake's death and the vigil.
As the men start to gather in the bleachers. they discuss the Reign of Rake. They share many stories, opinions, and moments of both hatred and adoration. The bleachers become integrated, but split by opinion on Rake. Some love him unconditionally, others hate him beyond reason. They're all anxious and uncomfortable about talking about Rake, though. Especially when the dreaded topic arises- of how Eddie Rake was fired.
