  • Coyotito's been bit by a scorpion!
  • I think this pearl is good enough.
  • I'll sell the pearl to the highest bidder.
  • One day, Kino and his family woke up and got started with their normal daily routine. Kino's son, Coyotito, was sleeping in his cradle when he was bit by a scorpion. Kino rushed his baby to the doctor, but the doctor refused to help the family because of their race.
  • Kino came up with the idea to find a pearl in hope that it would be worth enough money to persuade the doctor to help then and maybe even give Kino and his family a chance at a better life. Kino went searching for oysters and kept searching and searching until he found the perfect pearl.
  • Once Kino found the perfect pearl, he held an auction and was gonna sell it to the highest bidder. There were a lot of bids. Some were decent, but mostly bad. Kino wasn't settling for any of the offers because he knew that his pearl was worth much more, so he kept it until he could find a better deal.
  • Kino and his family were becoming a target the longer he had the pearl in his possession because now everybody knew that he had it.  Kino kept the pearl with him in his room and tried to keep it hidden. He placed in on a shelf in his bedroom right next to the window. He must not have hidden it well enough because one night, while Kino and his family were fast asleep, a thief broke into Kino's house through his bedroom window. The thief was expecting the pearl to be locked away somewhere, so he was ready for a long search. To his surprise the pearl was in plain sight. He took the pearl and hurried back out the window.
  • The next morning, Kino was about to start off his daily routine. He got out of bed and got dressed for the day. He then turned around and noticed the pearl was gone. The shelf he left it on was now empty. Kino immediately left his house and ran into his village and started going crazy. He was yelling and accusing just about anybody that he came in contact with of breaking into his house and stealing his pearl. Everyone was getting scared because Kino was so furious that he started threatening to kill people. Then, a woman stepped up to Kino so she could speak. She said that she had seen the man sneaking into Kino's home last night and then saw him come out with something in his hands. She explained to Kino what the man looked like and he knew exactly who she was talking about.
  • After finding out who it was that broke into his house and stole the pearl, Kino returned to his home and grabbed his gun. His wife was trying to stop him and tell him to calm down, but he just ended up getting more mad that she was trying to stop him and pushed her onto the ground. Kino went on a hunt for the thief. He was searching and searching and finally he found the thief. The thief started running into the forest, so Kino had to run after him. They were running until the thief tripped and fell. He got back onto his feet and Kino didn't even question him. He immediately demanded his pearl back. The thief refused, so Kino gave him one more chance. He told the thief that if he didn't give him back the pearl, he was going to shoot him. The thief said there was no point because he knew that Kino was gonna shoot him anyway. Once again, the thief refused, so Kino raised his gun and pulled the trigger. He grabbed his pearl and left the dead thief where he was.
