Storyboard Text

  • Dr. Smith, give me updates on Mr. Jones and your recommendation for the next step.
  • Mr. Jone's small bowel obstruction has been repaired and diet has been advanced from clear liquids to regular diet and has been well tolerated. I recommend to put in floor orders.
  • Dr. Wilson, regarding Mr. Jones do you want to go ahead and initiate floor orders? I noticed in his chart that lab results are back and his potassium is low. Would you want us to address that here or do you still want to send him up to a med-surg floor?
  • Thank you for bringing that to my attention, charge nurse Susan. I want to initiate electrolyte replacement protocol and continue monitoring him here in SICU. Discontinue floor orders.
  • Dr. Smith, you must always assess lab values when considering recommendations. We want to continue monitoring him here until his electrolyte levels are within normal range before sending him to a med-surg floor.
  • Nurse Jose, electrolyte replacement protocol has been initiated.
  • That's fine with me.
  • Mr. Jones, you will not go up to the floor today after all. I spoke to Dr. Wilson and labs show that your potassium is low so we will administer potassium supplements and continue to monitor you here and reassess tomorrow.
  • Okay Mr. Jones, I will go ahead and get that for you and we will continue monitoring you.
