Odysseus and his men finally escape Polyphemus. They think they are safe and done with their problems, but they are wrong.
Finally, we escaped. Hopefully we can make it home quickly now.
Odysseus, again being the prideful man he is, announces to Polyphemus his name, which is not a smart move for him.
Back at his cave, Polyphemus couldn't catch the men who escaped him, so he prayed to his father Poseidon, that he would cause them trouble on the rest of their journey home. Odysseus' pride hurt him and all of his men.

Once Odysseus was off and on his way, he thought he was in the clear and the rest of his journey home would be easy, but boy, was he wrong.
Odysseus, being the prideful man he is, wants a gift from Polyphemus. Polyphemus responds by saying that his gift is being eaten last.
