Gun Control Act of 1968, determines who aren't allowed to have a gun. For example, ppeople that are convicted of felonies or committed to a mental institution or have certain mental conditions.

Congress passed the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, requiring licensed sellers to run a background check on anyone wanting to buy a gun. Some people want a universal background check for both licensed and unlicensed sellers.
States can require a waiting period before getting the firearm or registration or licenses to buy firearms. Depending on the way people look at it some may think that they have the right to carry concealed weapons for self defense.
