  • Amerrica is a free country, where every man has equal rights!

  • The Declaration of Independence was written with the purpose of explaining to the foreign countries, in specific the United Kingdom, why the Colonies should separate themselves from Great Britain.
  • Who wrote it?
  • It was created to show what are the ideals of the Colonists, to justify the actions of the Second Continental Congress.
  • What did it say?
  • We the People
  • It was also created to bring to light the tyranny of King George the III.
  • When was it written?
  • 1776
  • Thomas Jefferson was the main author, he wrote the first draft and printed the Declaration of Independence. However congres appointed 4 other men to the task: Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Robert Livingston.
  • The Declaration of Independence states that the Colonists have the right to separate from Great Britain. They have a right to remain free, all men have equal rights, and the government is for the people and by the people. It gave the Colonists a voice to protest against being a part of the U.K.
  • Congress ordered for it to be written on June 11, 1776. The Declaration of Independence was drafted in between June 11, 1776 and July 4, 1776. The Declaration of Independence was approved by Congress on July 4, 1776.
