  • They rely on us in order to ensure consistent income for landowning authorities.

  • In 1853, Commodore Matthew Perry of the US Navy, arrived with a fleet of “black ships” and demanded the opening of the country. Seeing no other option, in 1854 the shogunate’s leaders agreed to the Japan-US Treaty of Peace and Amity, which opened the ports of Shimoda and Hakodate to US ships.
  • we have no power or any supplies to fight tight now, so i guess we will have to alliance with the US.

  • Clothing, food, and customs dramatically changed. For example, the soldiers got new outfits made of steel and did things such as not taking their shoes off before entering a house etc. More noticeable were the changes in hairstyles with the short cut replacing the topknot, so that by 1890 it was difficult to find a man in the cities with a traditional hair style. For women, blackened teeth and shaved eyebrows began to disappear quickly from the cities and more slowly in the countryside.
  • I love these new clothes! the style is amazing!!
  • I know right?! The western countries really know style!
