“Oh, I wouldn't mind, Hazel Grace. It would be a privilege to have my heart broken by you.”
Hazel Grace Lancaster is a 17 year old girl suffering from a terminal cancer. It requires her to breath through a portable oxygen tank and a breathing tubes. The cancer is held stable by an experimental drug, but her lungs often give out, and she knows her life is limited.
Hazels parents make her go to a social group every day because she cant go to school. There, she meets Augustus Waters -a prior cancer survivor- and tries her hardest to hide her feelings for him so she doesn't hurt him when she dies.
Hazel decides to go for it and she confesses she likes Augustus. Together they make many memories and find out that they have the same interest for a book called An Imperial Affliction. They fall in love with the authors books and decide they want to take a trip to meet him.
Although the trip to see their ex-favorite author was a bust, Hazel and Augustus had an amazing time together and made a strong bond to eachother. But sadly they found out that Augustus' cancer came back and his health is declining expeditiously.
Augustus' health is rapidly deteriorating, and Hazel is having a rough time dealing with it. Together they try to get through the pain, and stay calm.
Sadly Augustus dies. It is a very difficult time for everyone, especially Hazel. Although she does have slight comfort from a note he wrote for her while on his death bed, it is still very hard for her to grasp the idea of her true love dead.
