The creature realized that because he was hideous he will never be treated the same by other humans. The creature was trying to save a girl who had jumped into the water and almost drowned. However once someone saw the girl in the arms of the creature he shot at him and nearly killed him only because of his appearance. The creature was then so full of anger he killed William (Victor's brother) as revenge for making him hideous. The creature wanted Victor to suffer as much as victor made him suffer.
