Did you hear? The Bashkirs have fertile land at low low prices!
Two sisters argue in the kitchen, while Pahom, a peasent husband boasts of how much better it would be if they had more land. The devil hears the complaints and exploit Pahom's greed.
Pahom continues to acquire more land, yet quickly becomes dissatisfied.
A traveling dealer tells Pahom about the region of the Bashkirs, and how fertile and cheap their land was. So he heads to the land of the Bashkirs himself, carrying his 100 ruples with him. He decides to bring along some gifts, to please the Bashkirs.
The Bashkirs love the gifts and treat Pahom with the highest respects. Pahom has my much more land but is still not happy so he strikes up a deal with the Bashkirs... if he can run to four points by sunset he can get all the land he wants within those four points.
So Pahom starts as early as possible in the morning and walks on and on and on but suddenly realized the sun is setting rather quickly! He can hear the Bashkirs yelling from the top of the hill! He gathers the last of his strength and runs to the top of the hill where he collapses and dies. He only gets six feet of land at his burial site.
