Lainey was beyond worried about what she was going to do. If Sam’s family was anything like hers things weren’t going to end well. She lay awake in bed, her mind filled with all of her thoughts and she burst into tears.
The thought of her parents not being accepting of who she was became unbearable. Lainey crawled into her closet so she could be all alone in one small space with her mind. She didn’t know how to deal with this.
She must have drifted off while thinking and woke to her mum and dad standing in the doorway blocking the light from her eyes. Her mum was staring down at her with wide eyes.
Come out of the closet sweetie.
Mum, I know you meant that I need to literally come out of the closet but I need to figuratively as well.
Lainey, sweetie, we know you’re still the same, we’re going to love and support you no matter what so don’t ever be afraid to tell us anything, I am so proud of you.
Guys, I think I like girls, and before you say anything I just want you to know that this doesn’t change me as a person and I’m still the same Lainey and..
Lainey's mum cut her off.
