In the beginning there was a dystopian society
We are guilty for being disappointed in our life's destiny. We wish to be with the Scholars.
"Street Sweeper" (Rand 26).
"The will of our brother be done" (Rand 26).
And carried through his discoveries
"But we feel no burden upon our spirit and no fear in our heart... And in our heart--strange are the ways of evil!--in our heart there is the first peace we have felt in twenty years" (Rand 37).
And effected his relationships
"We wish to speak [her name], but we dare not speak it above a whisper... For men are forbidden to take notice of women, and women are forbidden to take notice of men" (Rand 38)
He is upset with the choice that the Council had chosen for his job which shows the Dystopian society where people are forced to do something that their heart may or may not desire. Such as International 4-8818 (Rand 29)
This represents a dystopia functioning society again, because the character (Equality) has resulted to the only place where he feels content, which is isolated from everyone else. It is against the law to write if you were not sent to the particular house that allows you to do so, but here Equality 7-2521 is in secret away from the environment that he hates.
Equality 7-2521 develops an attraction to one of the women, but due to the laws he can't speak with her even though he strongly desires to. Therefore the two begin to acknowledge one another by a wave that wont catch other people's attention. Equality does not like having to secretly begin a deeper relationship with someone in a society that is trying to prevent him from that.
