Storyboard Text

  • Act I
  • Draw, if you be men.—Gregory, remember thy washing blow.
  • Part, fools! Put up your swords. You know not what you do.
  • But now, my lord, what say you to my suit?
  • Woo her, gentle Paris, get her heart. My will to her consent is but a part. An she agreed within her scope of choice, Lies my consent and fair according voice.
  • If I profane with my unworthiest hand This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this: My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.
  • Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much, Which mannerly devotion shows in this, For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch, And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.
  • Act II
  • But soft! What light through yonder window breaks?
  • She speaks. O, speak again, bright angel!
  • Ay me!
  • With love’s light wings did I o'erperch these walls, For stony limits cannot hold love out, And what love can do, that dares love attempt. Therefore thy kinsmen are no stop to me.
  • What man art thou that, thus bescreened in night, So stumblest on my counsel? How camest thou hither, tell me, and wherefore?
  • So smile the heavens upon this holy act That after-hours with sorrow chide us not.
