Storyboard Text

  • There are many different tasks for slaves, a main one being working in the fields.
  • It wasn't uncommon to see slave owners working alongside their slaves in the fields.
  • I work in the kitchens with many other slaves, like myself.
  • House slaves were much more of a luxury to wealthier plantation owners.
  • Working on the fields was hard, physical labor.
  • House slaves could be cooks, maids, butlers or coachmaids.
  • Slavery in the city was a very different world.
  • House slaves were a rare luxury, but still present. In most homes, all kinds of slaves could perform multiple jobs, but in wealthier estates there would be designated positions.
  • In the city, it was much easier for slaves to get money and gain their freedom!
  • Whites, free blacks and slaves all had much more contact and slaves had much more freedom.
