This shows that he is capable of taking anyone out like a man in our world and time it is good to make other men and people scared of you so they dont mess with you or with your stuff
“Okonkwo was well known through the nine villages and even beyond. His fame rested on solid personal achievements.”
“ I have many wives and children and they all respect me”
Okonkwo in this part of the book is showing off that he has many wives and can afford many wives so he wants to tell people and make them feel bad about themselves for not being able to be as manly
“ Okonkwo did not have the start in life which many young men usually had. He did not inherit a barn from his father."
This shows a displacement in confidence because all the other men in okonkwo’s village had things to inherit and they were confident with their future because they had farming land and a barn and wives all from their fathers
“‘My father they have killed me!”’ as he ran towards him. Dazed with fear, Okonkwo drew his machete and cut him down. He was afraid of being thought weak.”
Okonkwo loved ikemefuna but he had to have the confidence to kill him no matter what because if he did not kill him then he would be known as a coward and not masculine which is very bad i his eyes mainly because his father was a coward and he did not want to be like his father.
"'Go home ad sleep,"said Okonkwo. "I shall wait here."'
He was trying to show here that he is not scared to be in the dark alone or to be by himself and that he could take care of things by himself although is was still her daughter that he was talking about.
"Every nerve and every muscle stood out in their arms, on their backs and their thighs, and on almost heard them stretching to breaking point. In the end Okonkwo threw the cat."
This shows Okonkwo's masculinity because he can take down the strongest person in the village then he can take don anyone and so now no one will mess with him.
