When I was in 3rd grade, I decided I wanted to become a cheerleader. I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to get my back handspring and compete.
I got this!
I did grade school and rec cheerleading up until 6th grade. Finally, I decided to join the all-star cheer team the Penn Elite All Stars! I was so excited to be on an all-star team! My dreams were coming true.
I wouldn't tell you to do it if I didn't think you could.
I was determined to get my back handspring so I could throw it in competition. My coaches wanted nothing more than for me to succeed and achieve my dreams. I was tumbling 2 days a week and had practice 3 days a week.
Coach Deana taught me how to do my back handspring on the trampoline. She made me work hard every tumbling class so I could get it. One day, it all clicked. I sat, swung, jumped, arched, and landed it by myself.
Next, I moved to tumble track with Coach Nick. Tumble track is similar to a trampoline just a little more stiff. I knew I could do it, but for some reason, I was hesitant.
I realized that Coach Nick knew I could do it, and now it was time for me to believe in myself. I told myself I could do it, and I finally did it. Now, it was time to move to the floor.
