For over 800 years Swedish-speaking people have lived in Finland. During the Middle Ages to the early 19th century for 600 years, Finland was part of Sweden. Russia and Sweden fought over Finland during this time. Finland separated itself from Russia at the end of WW1. In 1939 Finland got attacked by the Soviet army. These wars caused Finland to lose some land to the Soviet army. After the wars turned into an industrial country.
