  • Mae Mobley and Lucy are both new writers trying to find their place in New York City. Lucy, is there in hopes of following her mother, Skeeter Phelans footsteps. Skeeter was a very successful, well-known writer up until she fell into a horrible sickness and had to give up her passion of writing. Lucy is struggling to find a job as a new and unexperienced writer, but recently landed a new job in an up and coming company.
  • CLIMAX
  • Mae Mobley recieves a call from the new company that had recently hired her, she is apparently no longer need and is fired. She decides it would be best for her to take a break from the city for a while and heads home. Just as things started going great for Lucy, she recieves news about her mother. her mother's sickness has become worse, so she books the first flight home.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • Both girls are very stressed about their current situation, one day when out shopping with their mothers they run into each other. Not knowing of their mother's past history with eachother, they become friendly.
  • RESOLUTION
  • Mae Mobley's mother sees how sick Skeeter is and is able to put aside her and Skeeter's past differences and attempts to help her as much as she can. Skeeter, only becoming more sick by the day finally gives in to the help Elizabeth is trying to give her, and in the process helps Elizabeth with some problems she has been having at home.
  • Elizabeth and Skeeter continue to help each other, and in the process repair their friendship.
  • With the help and support from those around them, they are able to overcome their problems. Skeeter's sickness was cured, and Elizabeth found the strength to leave her home and the problems that came along with it. They both gain a well needed friendship from this circumstance.
