There were several attempts to carry off tea. Captain O'Connor was one of the people to attempt. He filled his pockets and linings of his coat with tea. As he was stepping off the ship he was caught and the skirt of his coat was ripped off. He escaped.
After escaping the ship he had to run through a gauntlet. People stood around him and kicked him. They also gave him a stroke. He was stripped of his clothing, gave a coat of mud, and he received a severe bruising.
Another attempt was made to take tea. This attempt was made by a tall aged man wearing a large cocked hat and a white wig. He slipped a little tea in his pocket. The tea was detected and they ripped his hat and wig off. He was thrown into the water. Because of his age he was permitted to escape.
