The Northern economy was based on many industries. Some of those industries were mining, lumber, furs, textiles, and shipping.
In the North they didn't rely on slaves. People got jobs and did the work themselves.
We all have jobs and earn money for our families
Even though slaves were now free it was still hard to find a job. They were still treated terribly.
Even though I am free I am still treated like a slave.
The Southern economy was based on agriculture since the climate there was hot and humid. They relied on cash crops like rice, cotton, sugar cane, idigo, and tobacco.
We grow crops and sell them for money. They're called cash crops
Slaves usually worked in the fields with other slave and sometimes with other white farmers.
There was 12 million people in the South, one third of which were slaves
We represent two thirds of the Southern population
I represent the one third of African Americans in the South
