When the butterfly comes into tara's room and lands on her it give you a gentle and kind empression on Tara. "It landed on my nose and we started at each other for a moment"(11)
The imagery was when Tara describes the butterflies as if you were looking at it for yourself. "It has silky smooth wing as if they were velvet, and the purple and yellow the way they sparkle in the sun light"(15).

The Theme of the story is to never let some one you love go. Tara is looking for another note from her grandmother even when no one else has any faith in her. "It must be in her some where, I just know it"(103).
The yellow and purple butterfly is symbolic for the relationship Tara had with her grandmother. " I whispered to the butterfly softly, is that you Grammy Claire" (20).
