  • EXPOSITION
  • CONFLICT
  • RISING ACTION
  • Families of the town lined up for The Lottery that occurred every year. Mr Summer runs the lottery each year. Children ran around gathering stones as men and women gathered around talking with one another. 
  • CLIMAX
  • The conflict is when Mr. Hutchinson opens his paper and there is a black dot on his paper. Tessie Hutchinson starts freaking out that the drawing was unfair.
  • FALLING ACTION
  • Mr Hutchinson's entire family, Tessie, Nancy, Bill Jr. and Little Dave go up to the black box. Each member of the family draws a paper from the box. 
  • RESOLUTION
  • Everyone in the family opens their slips of paper and Tessie freaks out when she opens her paper and finds the big black dot on her paper.
  • Tessie Hutchinson continues to freak out about how her husband was not given enough time to choose his paper to begin with and how The Lottery was unfair this year. The children in town pick up all of the stones that they had gathered earlier in the day.
  • Tessie continues to cry and scream that the lottery is unfair as all of the people around her beat her with stones that they throw.
