To: Kathryn Carpenter From: Greenville County Schools: IT Dept. Come and join us for a two-week hiking adventure. It will be fun! Your guides are experienced and eager to assist you.
This is a great way to spend my summer break.
Welcome, I'm Loren. I'll be your navigator.
Meeting the Guides
I'm Barbara. I'll be helping with your gear.
This is going to be fun! How hard can it really be?
Kathy had just finished prepping her students for the last time just prior to state testing when she got an email from the IT dept.
What was I thinking?! I could be by the pool!
At Brook Glenn Elementary school, Kathy and her fellow adventurers meet their guides. Everyone loads onto the bus, and the journey begins.
Kathy and her group relax by the refreshing stream after one complete day of hiking. The guides had been gentle and encouraging. Somewhat sore yet still excited, Kathy reflects on the day's events.
The next day, Kathy and her fellow hikers are shown their end goal. The gentle rolling hills of the previous day are put in perspective asthey gaze on the seemingly insurmountable mountain on the left known as PBL Plateau.
The journey has been exhausting and sometimes treacherous. Keeping track of all her gear, reaching each milestone, and fighting despair, Kathy moves on, encouraged by her guides and fellow hikers. It's hard to see the top as she focuses on what's right in front of her.
I'm so close to the edge, but I can do this!
At the top of the mountain, Kathy gazes at the heavens and realizes that all of the hard work to get here was worth it. She reached for the stars and found them.
The impossible journey is the one I never begin. I'm glad I began this one.
