You traders cannot enter Ghana and get protection from us unless you pay a fee.
Traders from the South
Traders from the North
Finally there is a separate kingdom for us traders to stay in!
Ghana set up the rules of trading since traders traveled through their kingdom. One rule was if traders went through Ghana, they had to pay an ounce of gold, in return for an ounce of salt.
Traders from the South wanted to trade with people in the North, and traders in the North wanted to trade with people in the South. The only way they could trade with each other is by going through Ghana. As a result, Ghana's king created a tax for the traders to pay as they entered and left the kingdom.
Because the king didn't want the passing traders to disturb the people in his kingdom, he created a separate kingdom for the traders to stay in. In this city, the traders could eat, sleep, relax, and worship in their own way. This city was built about 6 miles away from Ghana.
