  • Della's her represents one of her most prized possessions and her beauty.This leads to the theme because Della realizes she doesn't need her hair for Jim to love her.
  • Jim's gold watch represents his family because it was passed down to him and is very important to him.This relates to the theme because although Jim loved his watch he loved Della more and wanted to get her a gift.
  • The combs represent Jim's love for Della because he sold something that was special to get Della a gift like she did for him but at the end they realize that they can not use the gifts they got. This leads to the theme which is that gifts don't always matter .
