  • Book 16 Lines 316-321
  • Telemachus it is me, Odysseus, we need to kill the insolent suitors together. Do not tell your Mother I am here though.
  • I am overjoyed you have returned! I will not tell Mother.
  • The Next Day.. Book 22 Lines 507-510
  • Of course, master! I am ecstatic about your return.
  • I have at last killed the suitors. Tell my wife Penelope that I have claimed what is rightfully ours and that I am here.
  • Penelope, come with me!! At last Odysseus has returned after 20 years! He has be rid of the impertinent suitors.
  •  Book 23 Lines 5-88
  • I will go to see him, but I am not faithful. I fear it is a God tricking me. 
  • Odysseus reveals to Telemachus that he is home and will kill the suitors, but advises Telemachus not to tell Penelope. Odysseus will tell Penelope after he has killed the suitors.
  • Book 23 Lines 90-115
  • Penelope, it is I, Odysseus. I have returned at last.
  • I am unsure whether I should test Odysseus or embrace him. It shall be better to test him.
  • Odysseus has killed all of the suitors, and he tells his maid/Nurse to Telemachus, Eurycleia to make Penelope aware that he is home.
  • Book 23 Lines 180-211
  • It would be impossible to move our marriage bed. I crafted it with an olive tree! 
  • Maid, move our marriage bed into the guest room! 
  • Eurycleia joyfully tells Penelope Odysseus is home, and she is extremely skeptical and hopeless, believing that she is being tricked by a God.
  • Book 23 Lines 212-237
  • Odysseus, you have revealed the secret! It is truly you! I apologize for being so ruthless.
  • Penelope sees Odysseus, and she is hostile and will not talk to him. Penelope still does not know if she is being deceived or not. 
  • After Odysseus has finished his plan with Telemachus to make people unaware of the suitor's fate, he takes a bath. He comes back down and Penelope is still hostile. To make Penelope believe he is truly home, Odysseus tells her the story of how he made their marriage bed.
  • It is alright my wife. I am extremely blessed to have returned.
  • After Odysseus tells Penelope the story of how he made their wedding bed, she believes him and the fact that he is home. She is extremely happy and apologizes for not believing him initially.
