In the first scene that takes place in the kitchen, Katie receives a call from "Polly and put Lois on hold. They begin to try to have a conversation but are soon interrupted by a "Polly's" sobbing voice. Katie starts to tell her husband Bill what has just happened, and she is very concerned of her daughter's well-being. This is important because it sets up the entire plot of the story.
Scene 2: Dawn's House Guests
In the second scene that takes place in Dawn's house, Bill and Katie decide to show up to Dawn's house to make sure that she was okay, after realizing that Dawn had actually been the one to make the call instead of Polly. The couple comes across a scratched door, building suspense for the reader, and more worries for the characters. When they get inside, they end up seeing asleep Dawn and her child, in a perfect state. They begin to have a conversation and decide to leave to get back to the kids after their relieving discovery. This is important because Katie and Bill are finally relieved but a bit confused on the situation.
Scene 3: Wedding Day and Reminiscing
In Scene 3 of this story, Polly gets married to her soulmate. Katie is with her new husband Frank, and her kids. The family celebrates the wedding, and all seems to be good. After the celebrations come to an end, Katie ends up in Bill's study and Hank and Katie talk about Bill and his character. Then, important foreshadowing occurs when Katie is in a similiar situation on the phone with Hank by her side and the story comes to a full circle.
Dialogue: Katie. Hello, Weiderman residence.(Sound: desperate sobbing) Sobbing voice (filter). Take . . . please take . . . t-t... Katie: Polly? Is that you? What’s wrong?( Sound: sobbing. It’s awful, heartbreaking.) Sobbing voice (filter). Please—quick—(Sound: sobbing . . . Then, click! A brokenconnection.) Katie: Polly, calm down! Whatever it is can’t be that b—(hum of an open line)
Dialogue: Dawn (fuzzed out). Well . . . hi. Bill. Hi, Dawn Dawn (still half asleep). Shoulda called, guys. Place is a mess. Katie. We tried. The operator told Bill the phone was off the hook. I thought something was wrong.
Dialogue: Connie. Throw it! Throw it!( After a moment, Polly throws her bouquet.) (Katie is looking at the desk, thoughtful and a little sad.) Hank (voice)-Coming to bed, Kate? Katie- " In a little while. A woman doesn’t see her first one getmarried every day, you know" Hank-"I know." Katie (voice; filter). "Hello, Weiderman residence"
