Storyboard Text

  • Hamartia
  • Javert's fatal flaw is his obsession with hunting down Jean Valjean.
  • I must wait here so I can continue hunting down Jean Valjean!
  • Hubris
  • Javert's extreme pride is in his role as a police inspector.
  • I'm better than all of the men I deal with because I'm a police inspector!
  • Anagnorisis
  • Javert's epiphany makes him realize his whole life's work has been unjust, even though he is completely against unjust things.
  • Wow, I just realized the law was unjust in persecuting Jean. He's a good guy, and my whole life's work has been unjust!
  • Javert makes the decision to spare Valjean and take his own life, and changes his fate.
  • Perepeteia
  • It is either Valjean or Javert who lives... I pick Valjean! He deserves to be spared.
  • Nemesis
  • Javert makes his fate committing suicide, and jumps in the river.
  • Catharsis
  • The audience's mood is sympathetic, because Javert's passion for abiding to the law, a good trait to have, led to his death.
  • Even though he killed himself, I sympathize with Javert, because he was just trying to do the right thing!
