Trenton: Washington's Army crossed Delaware and surprised the British at Trenton. They achieved total surprise and defeated the British. The American victory was the first of the war. Washington came with 2400 troops.

Fort Ticonderoga: American forces captured the British fort Ticonderoga, without a shot. The first offensive action by the colonists. The french won at first, but the British blew up the fort a year later.

Battle of New York: That first time the British troops landed on Staten Island and General Washington ordered his troops to fight in order to keep Staten Island and Manhattan. Washington retreated to White Plains and finally defeated the British after being forced out of Long Island and Lower Harlem. Then, Washington ordered for their troops to keep away from the British from any battles.
