  • The coffin tells how he shouldn't have lived. When he touched the coffin he started to cry, this shows the fear and sadness that he felt knowing that he was not supposed to live as long as he did.
  • Pride
  • "I did not know then that pride was wonderful, terrible thing, a seed that bears two vines life and death" This quote from the story tells how about the pride he had. Brother only helped Doodle walk because he was embarrassed to have a disabled sibling, he started to feel ashamed for his doings, which he confessed when asked by his mother why he was crying, that by Doodle walking was an amazing thing.
