The main idea or important event in Genesis 7 is the flood when every living thing, except the ones in the ark, dies. The first thing that happens is God commands that there be a certain number of each animal and human beings in the ark. These animals were a variety of “clean” and “unclean” animals. Next, all of the animals and people went into the ark, and God sealed them inside. Finally, the flood came and as the water began to rise the ark started to float. A life lesson we can learn from this passage is not everyone will be saved from their sin. I know this because Noah, his wife, his sons, and his sons’ wives were the only humans saved from the flood, none of the other humans were even thought about in this chapter.
Then the LORD said to Noah: Go into the ark (Gn 7: 1)
Those that entered were male and female; of all creatures they came, as God commanded Noah. Then the LORD shut him in. (Gn 7: 16)
Everything on dry land with the breath of life in its nostrils died. The LORD wiped out every being on earth: human beings and animals, the crawling things and the birds of the air; all were wiped out from the earth. Only Noah and those with him in the ark were left. (Gn 7: 22- 23)
