Being student body president and 8th grade class valedictorian, I was always expected to fulfill many duties. Mrs. Nerrell, my 8th grade teacher, always asked me for favors in and out of the classroom; but I didn't mind!
Kaushik! Can you please plan class today, clean the white board, and pass out all the graded tests? Thank you!
Yeah, sure of course, Mrs. L!
That's great! I'll need a rough draft by next week.
Would you like to write and give the 6th grade speech at graduation?
This is the best news I've head all day! Yes, I would love to!
I was flattered to be asked to write the 8th grade speech! The only thing was, what do I write? I went home that weekend and was stuck with writers block. I had no idea where to even begin!
Eighth Grade Speech
Since I did not know what to write and it was due soon, I write a boring, effortess speech just to get it done.
Hm... this is not quite what I was looking for. There are many grammatical mistakes. I hate to say it, but this is just not your best.
Here's my speech!
I went home that day disappointed and defeated. The only person who could relieve me from my bad day was my mom, who I always went to for advice.
Mom! I'm so upset that I have to restart my speech. Mrs. L hated it!I am clueless on what to write! This is going to be a disaster!
Kaushik, just relax. Let the speech come from your heart. Do not force it, just let it flow.
I did exactly as my mom advised. I was in a class of 15 students and we were all really close. We considered one another family. Reminding myself this made writing my speech a lot easier.
8th Grade Speech
Through the fights, laughter, and tears, we have all created timeless memories and special bonds.
From here on, we must not look at the past, but aim towards the future
My time with all 15 of you has been special to me. I consider you all my second family.
