Hi my name is Amelia, i'm a student here! What's your name?
Nice to meet you Amelia! My name is Adrenaline and I'm a hormone.
Oh cool! what do you do?
I trigger the body's fight-or-flight response. This causes air passages to dilate to provide the muscles with the oxygen they need to either fight danger or flee.
Really! That's awesome! So I take it you are located in the brain; but where exactly are you located?
Well I am produced in the medulla in the adrenal glands as well as some of the CNS neurons. My buddy noradrenline, who is also a hormone, is produced there too.
Wow I had no Idea. There's a lot I didn't know about you.
Yeah well unfortunately its not all that great. Sometimes my adrenal glad can produce too much of me or not enough which can result in some harmful disorders.
Oh no really? like what?
Well, some of them include adrenal insufficiency, Cushing's syndrome, and pheochromocytoma. And If left untreated, these disorders can cause health problems such as high blood pressure and heart disease. Fortunately, they usually can be treated successfully.
On no that is a bummer. Hey I heard my teacher say something about positive and negative feedback, do those effect you at all?
Well Adrenaline is actually not controlled by negative feedback. And In fact I mediate a positive feedback loop in noradrenergic transmission
