Hello, I am Susan B Anthony, founder of the National Woman Suffrage Association. Today I'm going to talk about the Kansas-Nebraska Act.
In 1854 the Kansas-Nebraska Act was passed by the U.S. Congress. It allowed people in the territories of Kansas and Nebraska to decide if they wanted to allow slavery along their borders.
People in the North were angry. After the act was passed pro and anti-slavery supporters rushed to the first election but no results were accepted.
Anti- Slavery held another election, but they refused to vote. There were two opposing legislatures in Kansas. Soon after, violence erupted... led by John Brown. The president at the time sent troops to end the violence and to spread the anti-slavery legislature.
Vote for the North or I will kill you!!!
Kansas shortly became a free state, because the anti-slavery outnumbered the pro-slavery.
