Mentor, aka Athena, tells Telemachus to go looking for news of his missing father, Odysseus. In Sparta, he learns from Menelaus that his dad is a alive but is held captive on Calypso's island. Yay
2 down, 4 to go *nom nom*
Alright, who's next?
Odysseus tells his story to Phaiakians: he blinds the cyclops, Polyphemus. His ego's pretty big so he taunted the cyclops with his name real. Turns out, the cyclops is Poseidon's son. Way to go, Odysseus.
I just want my wife!
Odysseus meets Circe because his men were nosy and released the given winds of Aiolos. She tells them to head to the Underworld to get advice from a prophet, Teiresias. He visits with his dead mom too.
I'm so loyal to Odysseus <3
Odysseus and his men sailed on for a series of adventures: 1) went through sirens 2) met two horrible monsters: Skylla, a six-headed chick who ate 6 men, and Charybdis, a shipping hazard and a whirlpool of teeth
3) his whole crew died in a storm because they ate Helios' forbidden cattle, Odysseus being the only survivor 4) he washed up on Calypso's island only to be her prisoner/lover for seven years
Story time is over so the Phaiakians send him home. Once he reaches Ithaca, Athena disguises him as a beggar so he can scope out the situation with the suitors. He then recruits the assistance of his loyal swineherd, Eumaios.
